Why this Journal?

Dear young-adult friends,

I am deeply grateful that you have decided to open and explore this journal. Catholics Without Borders, a young-adult group, was born about six years ago in Ontario. As young adults, they enjoyed spending time together engaging in a variety of activities. Due to the open spirit and purity of heart of those who dedicated their time and invested in these young people, the group quickly began to grow in an unexpected way. Today, there is a network of people living in different parts of the world yet connected to this group in one way or another.

The purpose of this journal is to bring everyone together under the umbrella of the Catholic faith. Even though we are believers, there is still much to learn, discover, develop, and experience. The aim of this journal is to provide young adults an opportunity to broaden their perspectives and gain deeper insights, which local communities may not always facilitate.

After being elected as Pope, John Paul II famously said: “Be not afraid.” This statement continues to resonate strongly with many, becoming a doorway through which they could venture out and conquer the world. I would like this statement to also guide us as we navigate the challenges of life. John Paul II is, therefore, the patron of this journal, and his words spoken at St. Peter’s Square, “Be not afraid,” serve as its title.

Under the few main sections – “Christian Faith,” “TOTUS TUUS”, “Witnesses of Faith,” “Testimonies” and “The person, life and marriage” – you will find a variety of articles and reflections that can support your human and spiritual development. Topics covered include God, life, relationships between men and women, marriage, friendship, sexuality, and more. You will also encounter testimonies from those who have lived good and blessed lives, those who have faced challenges and found salvation through God’s grace, as well as those who have endured significant suffering, whether self-inflicted or caused by others. Additionally, you will find insights from the Fathers and Doctors of the Church, as well as many renowned saints throughout Christian history.

Although this journal is not strictly academic, everything, apart from the personal testimonies, is grounded in academic teachings. It draws upon the knowledge and expertise of those who have dedicated substantial time and effort to study, understand, and become authorities in their respective fields. I hope you will find this journal captivating and that, with God’s grace, in a spirit of total freedom and openness, you will allow the Holy Spirit to touch your heart and reveal new perspectives on life.
